The light bulb has finally started flashing in my head and I now realize how important it is to have an opt-in list to make money on the Internet. I’ve read hundreds of articles on the subject and sought expert advice.

With that light bulb still flashing away I finally started a list of my own. Only very small at the moment but started. So! How do I build this list big enough to generate an income from?

It has been pretty scary setting this up. What website to use. What type of an opt-in form to use. Should you use an auto-responder service or a script on your own site? How should you format the messages? How many should you send a week? The list still goes on and on.

The answers to a lot of these questions greatly depended on how experienced I am on the Internet. I have no knowledge of CGI or PHP, so hosting my own auto-responder script was not option. I know HTML and have direct access to my on-line files, so setting up and editing the pages to insert the code for an opt-in form was not too much of a problem.

There are, unfortunately, other obstacles that I will need to overcome if I want to give this ‘Internet List Building Thing’ a go.

Below are just two of the areas that I will have to work on:

Obtaining a good supply of private label rights products to give away to the list.
I have a boat load of plr products on my hard drive. The job now is to sort them out into there individual categories and functions i.e. Free giveaway for squeeze page. Monthly free plr product. Product for sale.

Write supply of e-mails.
I am working on a series of newsletter style auto-responder messages to cover one year and when the list grows a little I’ll start on advertising the latest private label rights products as they become available.

Building a profitable opt-in list won’t happen overnight, but it will happen. I’ll keep at it and be creative. Try things outside of the box; put a twist on an old idea. And most of all - be persistent.

So! I now have eight websites set up to produce Adsense revenue.

When I logged into my Adsense account at the end of this month, and looked at last month’s stats, I was surprised to find that I had made a few cents over fifteen dollars.
Not a fortune but a start. At this rate I could expect my first cheque sometime in the New Year.

I now need to increase my Adsense Income to make these websites viable.

Working with the research I have carried out over the last few months, there are three key areas that contribute to Adsense earnings: Impressions, Clickthroughs and Effective CPM. Improving your stats in any, or preferably, all of these three key areas will increase your Adsense earnings.

Impressions

Impressions are the number of times the WebPages with Adsense ads have been viewed. I can increase Impressions by increasing traffic (preferably targeted traffic) to the webpages. Some of the ways to do this would be:

-Create more webpages, with relevant, focused content.
-Create more links to my WebPages
-List my websites under relevant categories in more directories
-Set up a directory of relevant sites on my website and accept relevant reciprocal links.
-Write relevant articles, with my site information in the ‘resource box’ at the end of each article, and submit them to article directories.

Clickthroughs

Clickthroughs are the percentage of viewers who click on the Adsense Ads. I could increase Clickthroughs by increasing the relevance of Adsense ads, and by tweaking the format and placing of your ads.

I know I can’t dictate which Adsense ads show on my sites, but I should be able to influence the relevance of the ads by maintaining a focused website. If every page on my site focuses tightly on the site topic, its more likely that the Adsense ads will too.

Effective CPM

Effective CPM is a measure of your average earnings, per thousand clicks. I could increase my Effective CPM by selecting topics that attract higher bids from Adsense advertisers, and building pages on higher paying topics within the theme of the website.

Although Google doesn’t release information on Adsense bids, you can get a good idea of the top paying topics by looking at information on Adwords bids, or, for that matter, bids on pay-per-click search engines like Overture. There are a number of keyword research tools available, both free and paid, that can help you find high paying topics.

So now I have the basics of increasing this Adsense income, I’ll work on this and see how this months stats differ from last months.

I have been told that if I sit in front of this computer for a long enough period of time I will eventually get tired of it. This is especially true if you are looking for ways to make money online.

There seems to be literally thousands of ways to make money online and one can quickly get overwhelmed and never really make any money.

There is one thing about list building that I found out over the last few months. It takes commitment. I have to decide if I’m going to enter a free product on the website once per day, once per week, or every month. For the sake of those reading my Blog…

I compare it to this. I was co-owner of a store for almost 10 years some 20 years ago. During that time we had a good philosophy that can be applied to Internet Marketing…

Our store closed at 7:00Pm during the week and 7:30Pm on the weekends. Now if business was slow and there was no one about for some time, should we close up early?

The answer is no. If you have someone that same evening you close early travel 2 miles in the rain to go to your store and it’s closed, the next time that person wants to do a little last minute shopping at that time of day will go somewhere else… and this time with 10 friends!

You should stick to your hours no matter what… you could potentially lose business. Build a reputation for being there when people need you.

The same thing goes for internet marketing. If I offer a free private label product on my Blog every week, I don’t miss a week. People start to depend on it or expect your freebies to be there. If they stop by and you haven’t entered a free product for a few months, they might not come back…

I’m working on this myself. I have missed a few weeks. It is my intention to post one free private label rights product every week. When I don’t? I’ll make up for it with a couple of bonus product in the following week.

Sometimes what we want to do and what we can do are two different things. I am busy with this businesses so sometimes it’s hard to do… it shouldn’t be hard… I’ll work on it.

Building a List from scratch.

Most informed people in the internet marketing fraternity say you don’t even have a business if you don’t have a list. By building a list you have a sustainable business model not dependent on outside sources for traffic or income.

Web Design: Planning multiple Websites.

Firstly, it is really important to know why I chose to take this path.
Being given control of a number of websites to help build a profitable internet marketing base seemed to me to be a chance that was too good to let slide.
Even though I have more than doubled the workload and my meagre budget looks a little too optimistic for such a task, I decided to give it a go.

I have listed my research into the generation and running of this internet business that will be named IMM Studios.

When designing an internet business like this, one must consider the following key elements: the purpose of the business, the possible audience, content structure and the design compatibility of the web sites for that business.

For each of the twenty two websites that make up this internet business, there should be a statement that says what the site is used for and what visitors can get from it. This will help me plan a proper outline of how the website can be designed and modified over time should the need arise. Thus, keeping a long term objective.

In terms of audience, one should keep in mind the people who will be visiting the websites. Basically, what should be considered is the target market. People will be viewing these sites for different reasons and it is essential to know what those reasons are and if they are attractive enough to have them return to the site often.

Content will be the most time-consuming section of these websites. A lot of planning is required because this will be the most dynamic part of the site. This means that the information will keep changing. This is especially true in this case as the websites will be Wordpress Blogs that deal with articles changing every few days.
Content will also be the way a product is advertised or presented to the user. The more attractive the graphics are and the catchier the copy is, the more it will help get more customers.

Websites have changed the way businesses are run. People actually purchase items online now and this is why having a good-looking website is essential. A professional-looking website will ensure more transactions and therefore lead to more sales and higher profitability.

The month of May will see the continuation of setting up an autoresponder capable of sending out a news letter for fifty two weeks.
